Good Evening my sweetlings,
This year has been so strange already, so much has happened that it feels as though months should have passed and yet we're only now coming to the end of February. Sometimes it feels as though time is on fast forward and everything blurs together.
One thing that has happened so far this year is that Steven and I have finally found our own place! We're moving on Wednesday and I am so excited to finally make a little haven for ourselves. The place is small, cozy, with a little secret door and a tiny kitchen, lots of windows to let in the light. I can't wait to fill it with our lives, make it our own.
Yet there is one thing that is bittersweet and that, for all that I am so ready to leave, is making my heart ache. There is no garden at our new place and in a few days time we will say goodbye to the garden we have made for ourselves over the past 2 and a half years, that we have turned from an empty courtyard into a place brimming with greenery and made a place for magic. Our first garden, the place that above all else I have seen physically grow with me, changing as I have changed, a place in which I have poured my heart out, my sadness, my anger and my joy. It has been a home to it all and I really feel that it has protected me through everything. To leave it behind is painful and I feel strangely protective of it, the idea of others trying to change it, trying to control it, not loving it like we do.
I know there will be other gardens, other places to transform and fill with memories, but this was our first place that was ever truly ours, mine and Steven's together.
Today was beautiful with bright blue skies and sunlight bouncing about on all the leaves. The Ivy Path always looks beautiful in the sun.
Our first crocus and to me a sign that Spring is truly on her way. Many of our plants will be going home with my parents who love to garden so I know they will have plenty of love and attention.
My herbs will be coming with us to the new house, little Sage, Parsley and Lemon Balm are here.
I love the effect of pointing the camera at the sun and the way it throws all the light about.
Our Willow tree is in bud, so soft and sweet and lovely. She too will go home with my parents, to live on their allotment if space allows.
Tiny little Ivy leaves. I love the wildness of the Ivy, the way it roams and tangles, how full of joy it seems as it grows.
Making a fire in our chimenia, this too will be going to stay with my parents until we have a place for it.
Another thing that has happened this month is that my darling boy Dumbledore passed away on Monday. He suffered a stroke in the end of January and never fully recovered, though he was happy and peaceful to the end. I've tried to think of something meaningful to say, something that could express how much we loved him, but everything I think of seems inadequate. Still, I want to try. He was our love, he was naughty and had a will of steel yet he was so sweet and funny, he had an unquenchable appetite for Green Tea and would run off with anything he could possibly steal from you. He loved to climb on my lap when I was working on something, try to run off with my necklaces and was a fiend for trying to get into my paint set. He had beautiful blue eyes like his brother and like Steven too. I always liked that they had blue eyes, like a part of us was really in them.
My mum took him home with her to bury him beneath the Apple tree where my other rats Tolten and Happy are buried. Rest in peace my sweet Dumbles.

Dear Sweetlings is 3 Years Old! 48 of my Favourite Posts Ever ♥
Good Evening my lovely sweetlings,
Today marks Dear Sweetlings third birthday! It's so strange to me to think that three years ago today I was sitting down and creating my blog with no real idea of what I was doing and absolutely no clue of what it would mean for me in the future.
Over these past three years everything around me has changed so much and I've grown and experienced more than I could have imagined when I first sat down and started thinking of names for this completely new place. I still remember how it looked with the absolute bare bones, when I had no posts, no archives, nothing! It was definitely a scary sight, something so new, a clean slate waiting for me to scribble all over it and mould it into whatever it was going to become.
What it became I could not be happier with. My blog has meant so much to me over these past three years, I have grown so much and used it to record my memories, my dreams, my loves. Looking back at it has been like stepping into a time capsule and being transported back to all the steps that have lead me to where I am now.
I've made completely amazing, mind blowing friendships through my blog that I never could have imagined in my wildest dreams before I came here. You've all found me through one path or another and I couldn't ask for sweeter, kinder more wonderful people to be around me than all of you. Thank you so much for reading what I have to say and for your words, your stories, sharing yourselves with me. I truly am grateful to you, my dears.
I could go on forever and ever I'm sure, but I decided to do something a little different. I decided to make a compilation of all my favourite posts over the past 3 years, with an image, link and little recap for them all. I hope you enjoy this post (and maybe find some old ones you've never seen before!)
2009
One of my earliest blog posts ever where I wrote about dramatic fashion and the disparity between the drama of the runways and the conservative streets.
I used to spend a lot of my time turning junk into tiny hats! This was my first one ever.
Creating the Deer Father, still one of my favourite paintings. I've taken this painting everywhere I've ever lived, as of today he lives in my mantlepiece in my bedroom.
My world turned upside down, in a wonderful way! This was the first post I made after my big life upheaval of the year (and probably my entire life, thinking about it)
I went and took photos of the old fashioned sweet shop on the hill. Anyone who ever visits me gets taken here, it's amazing!
A little post about how truly happy I was feeling, small but important.
Thus began the adventures of Stan and my love of taking all my toys out for jaunts around the garden.
My first Halloween with Steven, we decided to take photos with our pumpkin and broom which reminded me of vintage Halloween posters. Also look at Steven's gorgeous long hair!
Our first Christmas together, looking at these photos makes me so happy. There was much reading of Spiderwick Chronicles, dressing up like a pirate with Steven's brother and sister and sleeping on a bed on the floor.
2010
Kicking things off for 2010, this was a picture taken at my 20th birthday party which was themed around Alice in Wonderland. It was SO much fun ♥
Welcoming in the Spring with my Daffodil dress! This makes me smile because my garden is currently under rather a lot of snow.
Taking photos of Steven as he was gardening and generally looking beautiful.
This was the beginning of our garden, as you know it became something of a focal point here over the years.
I had just dyed my hair ginger and was beginning to explore Mori-girl fashion. Sometimes I really miss being ginger!
I got to do an interview with my lovely friend and amazing artist Jinx. This was my first artist interview ever!
I embraced my fellow ginger haired lady Florence Welch and fell in love with the Florence & The Machine album Lungs.
Remember that all black PVC era I told you about? I haven't grown out of it entirely!
I also fell in love with Emilie Autumn and her Bloody Crumpets around this time. I lived in bloomers, lacy white dresses and corsets for a few months after that.
We set up a picnic and drank juice from little teapots.
We dressed Steven up as Lady Gaga (or at least that's who inspired us for this!), it was his idea too which just makes it even better.
We attended our first 3 Wishes Faery Fest ever. We got absolutely burnt to a crisp but it was so much fun.
We spent a fortnight in Cornwall with my parents and went to an amazing animal sanctuary. This sheep and llama are legendary in our house now! They were so dapper and friendly.
Next I did an interview with my beautiful friend and artist Naomi!
I tried Grimoire / Dolly-kei style, I really don't recommend it for the height of Summer!
I made a little tutorial on making Mint Tea fresh from the garden.
A little snippet of a story and a whole lot of faeries.
My Halloween outfit was as a light faerie. That night I got called 'The very best example of an elf' and it's still one of the best things anyone has ever said to me!
Gandalf and Dumbledore entered our lives for the very first time. Can you believe how tiny they were?
The snow that winter was absolutely unbelieveable, I don't think I've ever seen it cause so much chaos.
My friend gave me a treasure trove of wigs, this was one of my favourites!
2011
I talked a lot about wearing makeup and the expectations of women concerning makeup. There were a lot of great responses to this post.
I talked a lot about the misconceptions people have about pet rats, what they're like as pets (amazing!) and what to expect if you decide to keep them.
The white wig makes a return along with the discovery of the best crow top in existance!
I put pinecones in my hair, played with amazing chinchillas and found a hagstone tree.
I made a little sock monster who turned out to be very playful indeed! His name is Lumpy.
I wrote about what gardening and plants mean to me.
I finished University, very happily indeed!
Over the summer I was adopted by a very mischevious family of blackbirds that lived in the next hedge over.
Our awesome friend Rhaggles came to stay and I graduated University! I also dressed my dad in my mortarboard and Hufflepuff scarf.
I made my first freeform crochet piece incorporating fabric and called it the Slub Snail.
I took my doorstop out for an adventure in the changing leaves, he loved it!
I started picking up speed with my crochet and made my 2nd blanket.
It was a busy crochet time, next I made a cowl and got obsessed with eyelash yarn.
I put dreadlocks in my hair in October, it's been strange watching them change and mature ever since.
I did my third interview with the talented and super sweet Naomi Nowak.
2012
For the start of the year I dyed my dreadlocks green and blue. So far I've been likened to a tree, a waterfall and a peacock!
And my rats discovered a talent for crochet.
